The Theodore Roosevelt National Park Artist Proof is an original work created, numbered, signed and dated by the artist. The Theodore Roosevelt National Park Travel Poster is created in the style of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), when — in the 1930s and 1940s — the Federal Government commissioned hundreds of artists to create thousands of poster designs for public exhibits, community activities, theatrical productions, health, safety and educational programs, nature and travel. By the end of the WPA era, only 26 National Parks had been established and only 14 parks had posters created for them. Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in North Dakota. About Theodore Roosevelt National Park
When Theodore Roosevelt came to Dakota Territory to hunt bison in 1883, he was a skinny, young, spectacled kid from New York. He could not have imagined how his adventure in this remote and unfamiliar place would forever alter the course of the nation. Besides Roosevelt's historic cabin, there are numerous scenic drives and backcountry hiking opportunities. Wildlife includes American bison, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, and wild horses. The rugged landscape and strenuous life that he experienced here would help shape a conservation policy that we still benefit from today.
Photographer and graphic artist, Robert B. Decker, studied photography with Ansel Adams in the summer of 1979 in Yosemite National Park when he was just 19…an experience that solidified his love of photography and our National Parks. Now he is on a journey to photograph and create iconic WPA-style posters of all 61 major national parks as we celebrate the next 100 years of the National Park Service.
