For more than 50 years, I've been capturing the breathtaking beauty of America’s National Parks, and few places have left as lasting an impression as Cape Cod National Seashore. Stretching over 40 miles of pristine coastline along the eastern shore of Massachusetts, this park offers a unique blend of natural splendor, rich history, and vibrant culture. As someone who has dedicated a lifetime to exploring these treasured lands, I’m thrilled to share my experiences at this remarkable destination.

The Allure of Cape Cod National Seashore

Highland Light: A Beacon of History

This iconic lighthouse, perched atop the cliffs in North Truro, has guided mariners safely along the coast for over 200 years. As a photographer, I’ve been drawn to Highland Light countless times, captivated by its striking presence against the backdrop of the Atlantic.

Highland Light holds a special place in the history of Cape Cod. Originally built in 1797 and later rebuilt in 1857, it is the oldest and tallest lighthouse on the Cape. The lighthouse has witnessed the passage of time, standing as a sentinel over the treacherous waters of the Atlantic and serving as a symbol of safety and hope for sailors navigating the often perilous New England coast.

For me, photographing Highland Light is an opportunity to capture the essence of Cape Cod’s maritime heritage. The lighthouse’s stark white tower against the deep blue of the ocean and sky creates a powerful contrast, evoking a sense of both solitude and strength. The surrounding cliffs and dunes add to the dramatic scenery, making Highland Light a must-visit location for anyone exploring the seashore.
