Behind the Artwork: How WPA-Style Posters Come to Life

Robert Decker

When you hold a National Park Poster in your hands, you’re holding more than just a piece of art—you’re holding a story. Each design begins in the field, where I’ve spent decades exploring, hiking, and photographing America’s national parks. From the sweeping vistas of Yosemite to the rugged peaks of Glacier, every poster starts with a moment of inspiration.

Back in the studio, I translate those moments into artwork inspired by the iconic WPA style of the 1930s and 40s. Think bold colors, timeless typography, and clean, vintage lines—an aesthetic that feels both nostalgic and fresh. It’s a process that combines photography, graphic artistry, and a deep love for the parks themselves.

What started right here on Kickstarter with just 10 poster designs has now grown into a collection of more than 100 posters—each one celebrating the spirit of a different park. And for this campaign, backers at higher reward tiers will have the opportunity to choose from the full collection.

These aren’t just posters. They’re memories on paper, a way to commemorate past adventures and inspire future ones. Whether you’re building a gallery wall, decorating your cabin, or gifting a piece to a fellow explorer, National Park Posters are designed to bring the outdoors in—and keep the parks close to your heart.
